PLUG & PLAY HOMES
Do you have a display home?
Yes, we have our ‘Cove’ & ‘Chase’ design on display at our office located in Darra, Brisbane.
These displays are a great way to get a feel for a modular home, regardless of enquiry. Reach out to arrange an inspection!
What's the difference between an Urban Cribs home and a kit home?
Our Cribs come pre-assembled and just need to be installed on your site. Typically, kit homes are materials supplied with a plan which you will still need to assemble and fit out.
How is Gas Connected?
Dependent on the chosen model, our off-grid Homes include a gas cooktop, gas oven & gas instantaneous hot water system. These are connected to an LPG gas bottle (not supplied) on the outside of your pod.
How do I connect to water & what happens to the Grey Water?
Our off-grid models are designed for simple installation. In our off-grid crib inclusions we allow for IBC water tanks and water pump.
Grey Water: The kitchen sink’s wastewater flows through a grease trap, which is supplied and easily connected once your home is in place. Both the kitchen wastewater and the laundry wastewater drain into a bucket located beneath the grey water outlet. This bucket must be emptied daily onto your lawn or garden.
How does the composting toilet work in the Plug & Play Models?
A composting toilet decomposes human waste into humus by using micro-organisms. The toilet installed in our pod is an automatic continuous process unit. The waste is processed inside the unit and the finished compost falls into a tray at the bottom of the unit. The waste tray is emptied every six to 12 weeks depending on usage.
An efficient aerobic composting process and fluid evaporation are automated by a mixing mechanism, ventilation system and heating elements controlled thermostatically. The finished compost can safely be reintroduced to gardening. However, it cannot be used to cultivate vegetables.
Our selected composting toilets comply with Australian Standards.
How are Urban Cribs transported?
Our Cribs are built to withstand the rigors of international transportation, so they can be shipped and transported by Ocean freight, road – and in some cases, by Rail.
Our Cribs are well protected during transit, completely covered in a wrap and plywood to protect the glass.
The Modular homes are typically collected by truck and then side-lifted into their designated location on-site. Depending on the specific project and site conditions, franna cranes may be necessary to position the home accurately in place.
What is the external cladding made of?
Our ‘Standard’ external cladding is created from high-quality fibre cement sheeting or planking, design specific.
Do your modular units need to be elevated on stumps?
We encourage our modular homes to be installed on stump footings, or resting on sleepers to allow breathable space underneath the units. However, this is not a requirements for ‘The Urban Crib’, which is constructed on skids and can be placed directly on the ground.
Can I have Air-Conditioning in my Plug & Play home?
We have prioritised creating well insulated homes that require minimal heating and cooling, with double glazed windows and wall, ceiling, and floor insulation as standard.
We can provide a 2.5kw air conditioning system into all our Plug & Play Homes as an optional upgrade.
Can I change my compost toilet to a normal toilet?
Yes you can, but you will have to either connect to a sewerage grid or install a septic system.
Can I customise the plug & play designs?
To keep our Cribs affordable, we take advantage of the economies of scale that come from creating cribs to consistent specifications. Our production line is streamlined by our ability to build several homes at any given time.
However, we understand everyone has different needs for their home and we are happy to discuss these options. Please review all inclusions and optional upgrades!
How soon will my Plug & play home be ready?
You can expect your new off-grid home to be ready in as little as 3-4 months!
Production will commence once you have paid your initial deposit. Production time is about 8-10 weeks plus 4 weeks for shipping, you can expect to wait around 14-16 weeks.
You will be given an indication of the commencement and completion dates before you place your order.
How is set up completed?
1. Transport & placement
Transport can be undertaken with a super tilt tray truck or side swing truck. If the site is hard to access, franna cranes may be required to position your home in its desired location. The Nova Deko team or build partners may be able to assist in delivery and set-up on site.
2. Connection & Set Up
Plug & Play models are supplied as a movable home with easy ‘plug and play’ installation to power and water.

(NOTE: Owners must do their own inspections or engage a professional to check for breaches)
HITCH HAUS
Can I customise my order?
To keep our Hitch Haus affordable, we take advantage of the economies of scale that come from creating homes to consistent specifications. Our production line is streamlined by our ability to build several homes at any given time.
One-off designs require new research and development, extensive internal and external plans, engineering certificates, and smaller amounts of unique materials – all of which increase the price and slow down the manufacturing process.
What is the size of the solar battery?
Our solar packages vary depending on each modular home size. Please review the specific inclusions for your home. If you need extra solar panels, we can make arrangements to ensure that your home meets your requirements.
What is the external cladding made of?
The external cladding on the Hitch Haus is made from …
How do I connect to water?
Our off-grid models are designed for simple installation. In our off-grid crib inclusions we allow for IBC water tanks and water pump.
Is condensation a problem with Hitch Haus?
No – but like all homes, your Hitch Haus should be allowed to ‘breathe’, through ventilation or mechanical extractors.
Condensation is caused when water vapour comes into contact with cold surfaces and condenses to form dampness or water droplets. Many things can contribute to the amount of water vapour in a home. It can be produced by appliances such as clothes dryers, and even by people breathing. Condensation can be a problem in any building, particularly in modern buildings that are built to minimise energy wastage so are better insulated and more airtight.
The level of humidity in your Crib will also depend on the climate. Warm air holds more water vapour than cool air, so condensation is more common in cooler climates when homes are internally heated.
If you are putting your home in a cool climate you may need to install a de-humidifier, reverse cycle air-conditioner, or may require a larger energy recovery system.
Are the Cribs insulated?
Yes, all our Cribs are insulated, which may reduce the need for heating and cooling depending on the climate you live in. We use Rockwool batts in the walls and ceiling. All the windows are double glazed, which minimises heat loss and transfer.
Why do you recommend using a gas run fridge?
Gas refrigerators are more eco-friendly than electric models. They generate fewer greenhouse gas emissions and have a reduced carbon footprint.
NOVA DEKO COMMERCIAL
Where is your factory located and can I visit?
Our factory is strategically situated in Foshan, China, serving as a gateway to international markets and positioned near the primary production area for building materials. This advantageous location allows us to source materials in bulk directly from the factory, eliminating the ‘middle man’ and avoiding extra costs and extended lead times that typically come with supplies locally in countries such as Australia.
If you would like to arrange a factory visit, please send us an enquiry.
What is the process for a commercial enquiry?
